City Auditorium Building Replacement

SLIDELL, LA

Similarly to the replacement of Slidell’s Administrative Buildings, the replacement and elevation of Slidell’s City Auditorium required significant efforts to achieve the eligibility of the cost to comply with NFIP requirements.

Since FEMA’s cost estimate for construction of a floodwall (I-wall design) together with the repair cost to the old Auditorium totaled a lesser amount than the total cost for replacement of the building, FEMA’s Project Worksheet called for a building repair and a floodwall around the old building as the method of complying with NFIP regulations.

Utilizing the United States Army Corps of Engineers requirement for a costlier option of T-wall design (as opposed to FEMA’s utilization of the lesser cost I-wall design). Slidell’s feasibility study concluded that the construction of a new Auditorium is the more cost-effective solution, allowing FEMA to concur and fund the requested Auditorium replacement.

Today, Slidell’s Auditorium is an elevated modern structure designed to withstand significant storms and serve the community’s social needs.
